Reggae Star Mikey Dread Dies of Brain Tumor PDF Print E-mail

Reggae musician Mikey Dread died Saturday, March 15th 2008 at 4:30 pm EST in Connecticut. Michael Campbell better known as Mikey Dread, was a Jamaican singer, producer, and broadcaster.

Mikey Dread was born in 1954 in Port Antonio, Jamaica. From an early age, Campbell showed a natural aptitude for engineering and electronics. After he finished college, he partnered with Edi Fitzroy, an accountant for JBC. Edi Fitzroy got Campbell a job as an engineer with the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC).

Campbell wasn't impressed that the JBC's playlists mainly consisted of bland, foreign pop music at a time when some of the most potent reggae was being recorded in Jamaica. He convinced his JBC bosses to give him his own radio program called Dread At The Controls, where he played nothing but...

Passionate Middle Eastern Strings Sessions sampling CD PDF Print E-mail

Stockholm, Sweden -  PowerFX announced the release of Gabi Masso Oriental String Sessions Vol. 1-3 downloadable sample CD.

These Middle Eastern string arrangements were performed by top Turkish session players and recorded in one of Istanbul's finest studios. The ensemble consists of 11 Violins, 3 Violas and a Cello recorded together in 24-bit stereo, and meticulously edited into full phrases, loops and one shots.

The Pacific Jazz Institute at Dimitriou's Jazz Alley in Seattle presents for six nights, Grammy-winning Latin jazz pianist Eddie Palmieri. Band members are Eddie Palmieri (piano), Conrad Herwig (trombone), Michael Rodriguez (trumpet), Vincent "Little Johnny" Rivero (congas) Orlando Vega (bongo), Yosvany Terry (alto saxophone), José Claussell (timbales), and Luques Curtis (bass).
