 J. R. Ransom Hi, I'm J. R. Ransom. I moved to Taos in 1989. I lived in Denver, Colorado for many years. I'd been visiting Taos from time to time since 1973. In the Seventies I produced a bunch of records with Biscuit City Record Company, Inc.. I was also president of the company. I was called "Jim Ransom" in those days. I'll tell more of that story some day when there is time for me to do that.
In the Eighties I worked at ListenUp Audio Video, an amazing almost "futuristic" company in Denver. After I transferred to their professional division, I wrote the music for a CD called True to You. In 1988, I got my first Apple Computer. I moved to Taos, recorded True to You at the old Moondance Studio. I rented a house on Herdner then, later moving to Des Montes.
We formed a company named Taos Music & Art, Inc. (TMA). With TMA, we made a TV commercial and ran some ads late at night on a couple TV stations. My wife and I lived at the Trading Post in San Cristobal for a number of years, then. While doing this sort of work (1993?), our video producer suggested that we look at a new thing that he called "The Web". He said it was the new media and that it was going to be the perfect way to do what I wanted to do at the time - which was to make and sell a music product independently through the media.
Later, I formed Taos MultiMedia Guild with 3 others in 1996. We had an Apple network and played with audio, video, graphics, web, virtual reality..., as well as many "meetings" about the abstracts of the Web what it is and what it meant. Later in India for an extended stay, I found that many of those studies with TMMG gelled into some understanding of how the Web could be used beneficially for many. Particluarly, in this case, Taos and on this site: music.
The taosmusic.com Web site that you see here now is the product of many years of personal R&D. I hope you enjoyed this music site, I made it for you. The site had been somewhat limited in scope for the first five years of operation. Now we have made some shifts and our technology has become much more powerful..., a basically promoting and sells music that we feel like..., just fer grins.
Special thanks to the Taos musician's that were the basis of the site for many years. They remain the bed rock upon which many new acts and venues will be added.
Thanks for visiting taosmusic.com.
J. R. Ransom
